Tips For Beginners in Guitar

Okay, we have been covering the topics of "What a musician needs to know" - my blogpost from a few weeks back - a lot on this blog. I will finish the remaining two topics, but first let's take a break. Apart from what a musician needs to know, there are many people out there, who want to learn guitar. I am on this Google + (as Fluedix) community for guitarists, and I came across this post where a guy or girl wanted to start learning guitar. Many people left suggestions in the comments, first one being "learn drums". That could really be a downer. Anyway, this is for all of you who haven't started learning guitar and want to learn the guitar:

1)Waste not, want not: If you have an acoustic guitar at home already, no matter how dirty it is, clean it and use it. Remember, it is what you play, not what you play it with. A true guitarist can make the worst guitar sound beautiful. Also, don't make unnecessary additions to your guitar.

2)Make it Soft: No need to start off on an electric. That's the stupidest thing you can do. It's very easy to play on an electric guitar for a beginner, but hell no, you have to rough it up. An acoustic prepares your fingers to play on any kind of guitar. Even you rebellious people out there who might be reading this post right now and thinking "He can't tell me what to do!", well I can't. What I can do, is assure you that you will regret not being able to play on an acoustic later on.

3)Don't Enter Like a Hero: Quit it, you're not going to become slash the first time you touch the fretboard. Don't try to jump to advance songs after learning the ABCD of music.

4)I want to play this/that song: That's a no no. You're going to lose out if you just keep learning other songs. Do what your teacher tells you to, because he probably knows what's best for you in terms of learning guitar.

5)Ignorance is Bliss: It's quite true, don't listen to that old neighbour who keeps telling you that music is a waste of time and that it's nothing but noise! Music is beautiful, live it. Moreover, do what you want. Don't listen even if your parents tell you that they don't like what you're playing.

6)Don't Sound Good? No Problem: There's one thing that's important to note here, it's harmful if a beginner sounds good all the time. If you're a beginner, then make noise, not music! By that, I mean explore your instrument. Do what you want, it's yours! (Please, just don't break it on anyone's head) Exploring your instrument is very important. There's a lot to discover.

7)Breaking the Myth: Finally, this is for the not-so-beginner level. You see someone playing fast and you try it too? Well, the thing is, your hand should not get as stiff as it gets when you try to play fast. It should be relaxed.
