So you want to learn Arpeggios...

There are a lot of us who want to learn a lot of things in music because it "looks cool" or you just can't wait to learn it because it sounds so good...well, here I am with another article, rather some advice on how to go about learning arpeggios.

We all know what arpeggios is...most of you will say "yeah...uh...it's that cool thing which people do on the guitar so smoothly.." and other variations of that. Personally, I think it's very important to know what you're getting into by explanation before you learn it. Don't worry, I'll cover everything in the simplest language possible.

What is Arpeggios?

You have a chord. You know the notes of the chord. String by string on the guitar, you play the notes of the chord in continuity in one direction: either ascending or descending.

For example, if you take the notes of the 'C' chord an play the notes up to down in succession, downwards, you have played an arpeggios pattern.

I want to learn Arpeggios. How?

Well, learning arpeggios is really not that hard. All you need to do is have some basic knowledge, and the rest is practice. So here's how you do it:

Make a very simple progression: Take any notes of any one chord and play them in a pattern.

Keep the pattern simple: Whatever pattern you make, keep it simple. Start with a small pattern on two or three strings where you are comfortable moving up and down with your fingers.

Keep it smooth: Make sure that whatever you play, it's smooth. Your plucking hand shouldn't make it look like you're plucking. You're picking hand should make it look like you're strumming the guitar, in one continuous motion up or down. Start slow, because this is not easy and this takes most practice.

Learn from the learned: Don't be afraid to check out some arpeggios videos on YouTube, or other such sites, because it's important to learn and pick up what others already have. It helps you advance faster. Watching videos and graphic displays of arpeggios will help you pick up faster, and you will learn faster.

Practice: No matter where you learn arpeggios from, or how easy it is, you have to practice it, thousands of times, to get it right, and to get a hang of how to go about it.
