Styles Of Music

Now, we all know that there are a lot of music genres in the world. We can study them all, but that will take a lot of time. If one has the time, then studying them all would be great, but this post is for whoever doesn't have that much time. We are going to study some of the most popular music forms, and some famous bands which play that genre, so you have some new knowledge. After reading this post, you shall be able to answer any person who asks you about a particular genre. Since we are studying the most common ones, it's unlikely to be asked any other form, except if you're talking to an advanced musician who has been in the industry for quite a few years.

  • HIP-HOP: By some, this is regarded as the most famous music genre in the world. However, others disagree. Surprisingly, many people who listen to hip hop music don't know it's hip hop, they just know the artist and listen to their music. Either way, hip hop is a rhythmic type of music. It involves all the raps and rhythmic speeches. Yes, Eminem is a hip hop artist. Others are artists like Kanye West, Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj. It includes many forms such as Alternative Hip Hop, Gangster Rap and Ghetto Hip Hop.

  • Rock: Let's face it: We all know what rock music is, and we all know it's restless. Some like that, some don't. It's subjective. It emerged in the 1940's when country music and blues was merged, and the sound of electric guitars was added. Even the people who are not fond of rock like it at times when they actually play it on an instrument. A research showed that majority of the uneducated, or less educated, like hard rock or metal. Don't get me wrong, many well educated people like it too. I personally like listening to hard rock and metal once in a while. Rock is hard to define, as it takes unpredictable turns in the industry. Many bands and artists like Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin have contributed to making rock what it is today. Some of the famous bands that played rock are Pink Floyd, Beatles, AC/DC and Queen.

  • Blues: We all know how blues goes. In blues, you include specific notes, which are otherwise termed as accidentals. We won't go into detail in this post. So blues is sometimes relaxing, sometimes it relieves us from stress, and sometimes it irritates us so much that we would want to pick up the neighbour's noisy kid and throw him into hitler's trash can. Though not many of us actually care, (since we can't differentiate, and we don't find the need to, between the blues musicians and we end up saying that they play 'blues') there are many categories of blues. For instance, Country Blues, Blues Rock and Blues Electric. Here are some players: Quinn Sullivan, Buddy Guy and B.B. King. Personally, I love improvising in blues. It's really not something I would want on my iPod.

  • Country: Oh how I waited to reach this genre! I love country music, but not so much that I would actually improvise or compose country music. I listen to a few songs, but the ones I listen to, I love. Country music is soothing and relaxing. It's not annoying or it doesn't hurt your ears the way rock music does at times. Again, this has many categories, the names of which I either find weird or stupid. For instance, Texas country (that's the only one I can think of right now). Oh, but here are a few artists - Allan Jackson, Johnny Cash.
